Located in the middle of the Italian peninsula, halfway between Rome and Florence lies Umbria. It is a region that is steeped in history, art and culture, and has more hilltop and ancient castles than you can count.

In Umbria you will find a traditional rural lifestyle, but also an exciting international university and world-famous festivals. 1000 year old ruins await the historians, while postcard-perfect medieval villages just waiting to be explored, while chips of sunflowers turn their heads to the sun as the day passes.

Nature lovers will enjoy Umbria’s unspoiled mountain and roaring rivers. Everywhere in the region there are hiking trails that lead the migrant through olive groves, across small and large mountains, through lush forests and past flowering fields. If you are more on the wet element, Umbria has something to offer despite its lack of coastline. The region is thus home to Lake Lago di Trasimeno, one of Italy’s largest lakes, perfect for water skiing and sailing, including not forgetting the small local ferry routes that can lead one to the three small islands located in the middle of the lake.

Umbria is also Italy’s spiritual center – known as the birthplace of two of the world’s most famous saints, St. Francis and St. Benedict. In Assisi you can visit the famous Basilica dedicated to Italy’s patron saint, Francis.
