CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO

Castiglione del Lago is built on a limestone cliff and is located on the eastern side of Lake Trasimeno. Archaeological finds in the area indicate that the Etruscans were probably the first to settle here.

The city’s origins date back to the 6th century BC, and today it is as a beautiful medieval city, with an intact and interesting center.
The city is not big but is a beautiful example of medieval towns with city walls and old beautiful buildings, like the town hall and the castle Della Corgna Dukes from the same time is well preserved. At the castle you can see frescoes painted by Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi and Salvio Salvini. The most fascinating building in the small village is undoubtedly the castle, which with its four towers represents one of the most remarkable examples of military art in Umbria.

Castiglione del Lago with the most beautiful view of Lake Trasimeno. Although the city is not particularly famous, it is cozy and atmospheric and is definitely worth a visit. It also has a nice pedestrian street with restaurants and shopping.
