Passignano sul Trasimeno is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Trasimeno, with an old city center surrounded by medieval walls. The city is an old fisherman village, located between green hills and the blue waters of Lake Trasimeno.

The area offers fantastic opportunities for hikers, riders and cyclists. The church of San Cristoforo overlooks the cemetery just outside the inhabited area, and the old Pievania of Passignano dates back to the 19th century.

The newer town just outside the walls is right next to the lake with a long promenade along the banks of the lake. Unfortunately, many of the city’s monuments and sights were bombed during World War II, so they no longer exist. On the other hand, you can sit on the first park overlooking the beautiful blue color of the Lake Trasimeno and the islands out there.

Passignano sul Trasimeno is the last Sunday of July a big day! A very big day! Here the city’s four districts fight against each other in Palip delle Barche.
Palio delle Barche is actually a boat race – but as more than half of the competition takes place on land, the term does not quit seem to be correct.

The four districts, each with their own coat of arms and colors, enter the battle with the strongest and fastest men they can ferret out. Dressed in the colors of their urban parts, (either green/white, white/red, blue/red or blue/white), the men make themselves ready for the gloom in a mixture of serious warming, excitement, and anthems known by everyone in their respective neighborhoods.

The race is a great spectacle, which should not be missed if you are near when it is happening.
